Newsletter Specifications

Our Email Newsletter Sponsorship Specifications

Material must be received the Friday before publication, so that it can be reviewed for format and tone. We will send reminders, and a visual proof of your advertisement ahead of your campaign.

If material is not supplied in time for publication, but we have existing material from you that we deem suitable, we reserve the right to use it. Cancellations or changes require a week's notice.

Please send your material or any questions to kristina@cooperpress.com.

Primary Sponsorship

Primary sponsorships are the main sponsorships available. A typical primary sponsorship spot looks like this:

We require:

  • Title: Ideally 20-60 characters, but may be longer within reason. Try to be newsy or otherwise capture a reader's attention. Styled in title case.
  • URL: This is where you want people who are interested in you to go. Feel free to include your own tracking parameters, but if you do not, we will append some basic Google Analytics tracking parameters by default.
  • Body text: Ideally 100-250 characters. It may include another link or two (the HTML is not counted within the character count). If your material is too long, we will edit for size.
  • Image: The image is not a focal point of the sponsorship but does attract some attention (though receives very few clicks compared to the main link, in our experience). A basic logo is preferred, at an aspect ratio of square or up to 133:100. We can edit/work any graphics to fit, but if you want to provide something ready to go, please submit something of 200×200 or 266×200 for us to scale down and also use for high-DPI users. No animation.

Certain publications also carry a masthead featuring the Primary sponsors logo. This typically looks like so:

A company logo (landscape format preferable) is required for this placement.

Sponsored Links

Sponsored links are inline links that appear within the normal content of a newsletter. They may even be tagged as “video”, “news”, “code” or similar, but will also get an extra “sponsored” tag to disclose the relationship.

Example of a sponsored link with (optional) supporting text:

We require:

  • Title: Up to 70 characters. However, if no supporting text is used, up to 100 characters. Headlines are typically displayed in title case.
  • URL: Feel free to include your own tracking parameters, but if you do not, we will append some basic Google Analytics tracking parameters by default.
  • Company/service name: This appears under the link to provide guidance.
  • Supporting text This is (optional) text that appears under the link to provide more guidance to readers. It is optional and if you don’t use it, your link can be longer. If you do choose to use it, it MUST fit on a single line, so maximum ~120 characters.

Please note that the position of a sponsored link is not guaranteed. If it is relevant to other links in the issue it will be placed with them to encourage engagement. Please note the above image is only a representative sample of a typical advertisement, and as content will appear across a wide range of devices and viewports, layout shift is expected.

Brief Links

Brief links are inline links that appear within the normal content of a newsletter. They may even be tagged as “video”, “news”, “code” or similar, but will also get an extra “sponsored” tag to disclose the relationship.

Example of a brief link:

We require:

  • Title: Up to 70 characters, maximum. Typically in title case.
  • URL: Feel free to include your own tracking parameters, but if you do not, we will append some basic Google Analytics tracking parameters by default.
  • Company/service name: This appears under the link to provide guidance.

The position of a brief link within a newsletter is not guaranteed. If it is relevant to other links in the issue it will be placed alongside them to encourage engagement. Please note the above image is only a representative sample of a typical advertisement, and as content will appear across a wide range of devices and viewports, layout shift is expected.

Classifieds

Our classifieds listings are short, snappy text ads, typically featuring one inline link. They're used to promote a wide range of things, such as events, jobs, tools, services and more.

Classifieds Example:

We require:

  • Copy: A sentence or two describing your product or service. Typically no more than 140 characters. An optional, single emoji can also be placed.
  • URL: One (or two) links can be placed inline amongst your copy.

As shown, Classified ads will be placed in a dedicated section. They will sit alongside other placements from other advertisers. Please note the above image is only a representative sample of a typical advertisement, and as content will appear across a wide range of devices and viewports, layout shift is expected.

Job Listings

Job Listings

We require:

  • Title: Up to 65 characters, title case. Usually job title and location. However, if no supporting text is used, up to 100 characters.
  • URL: A URL that goes to your job listing page or somewhere someone can apply for the job.
  • Company/service name: This appears under the link to provide guidance.
  • Support text: This is text that appears alongside the link to provide more guidance to readers. Up to 130 characters ideally. We will edit if the listing becomes too long.

General Tips

Since our newsletters are email based, we will edit listings to ensure deliverability. We’ve learnt a variety of things about how to do this and have these general tips:

  • Avoid exclamation marks and similar punctuation.
  • Avoid common spam phrases (such as "urgent", "free" "apply online", "finance", "100% guarantee", etc).
  • Avoid ALL-CAPS when possible (terms such as HTML or CSS are OK).
